Philosophy of Education
Because every person is a creation of God, each child at the Kentwood Child Development Center is very special. Each is a unique individual and each child does not learn in the same way at the same time. Therefore, Kentwood Child Development Center strives to provide a wide variety of learning opportunities that cater to these different learning abilities. KCDC provides lessons, activities, and projects that emphasize these areas:
- PHYSICAL: This aspect focuses to help children gain more control of their bodies with large (i.e. jumping, balancing) and small (i.e. cutting, coloring) muscle skills.
- COGNITIVE: Education aids children to discover the world around them, ask questions to express their ideas and interests, and try new experiences to help understand how things work
- EMOTIONAL: Children feel more confident, and develop self-esteem and independence when working on this area.
- SOCIAL: The social piece of the curriculum encourages children to make new friends, work and play compatibly, and comfortably, in both small and large group settings.
- SPIRITUAL: Every child is taught that God created them and the earth, and that God loves them unconditionally.
The teachers use various teaching methods that involve the entire class, small groups, and individual instruction time.
Education is an on-going process from birth until death. Along with the parents, the staff at Kentwood Child Development Center strive to help each child progress and grow; to make teaching and learning fun and exciting, and give them a successful start in school and life.
